2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit, Chiang Mai,Thailand 2013

More than five years have passed since the 1st APWS. Continuing and building on the guiding theme of the 1st APWS, the 2nd APWS was organized under the theme of “Water Security and Water-related Disaster Challenges: Leadership and Commitment.”

Heads of State/Government from Thailand, Brunei, Fiji, Georgia, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, Korea, Lao, Niue and Vanuatu and more than 300 leaders from governments, international organizations, private sector, academia and civil society attended the summit.

Seven thematic focus sessions were also held during the summit: Household Water Security; Economic, Food and Water Security; Urban Water Security; Environment Water Security; Water Risks and Resilience; IWRM Process for a Water Secure World, and Water-related Disasters Challenges (Thailand’s experience).

At the closing of the summit, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Government of Thailand announced the adoption of the Chiang Mai Declaration by the Heads of State/Governments and the high-level representatives in attendance at the summit.
