ASEAN +3 Water Ministers Forum

On July 11th, the ASEAN +3 Water Ministers Forum “Enhancing Sustainability and Building Climate Resilience in Water Supply and Sanitation”was jointly organized by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and PUB Singapore.

In the plenary session, the representatives from fourteen countries and organizations conducted their presentations about his/her views in the areas of water, sanitation and countering threats of climate change on water resources.

Mr. Keiichi Yamamoto, Deputy Director-General of the Water Resources Department, at the Water and Disaster Management Bureau of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), represented the Japanese government. He made a presentation on Japan’s Water Infrastructure Development, including the history of overcoming problems in water supply and sewerage facilities and recent challenges and approaches related to water.

Representing the APWF, Mr. Ravi Narayanan, Governing Council Chair made a presentation on water security challenges in Asia, and the APWF’s activities, emphasizing the importance of strengthening political commitment at the highest level from each country and multi-stakeholders’ partnerships across institutions and people across Asia Pacific to promote the active exchange of information, knowledge and skills in the pursuance of water security as an indispensable part of the development process.
