Asia-Pacific Regional Process of the 10th World Water Forum Discussion outcomes
The Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF), in close collaboration with the Asia Water Council (Secretariat: K-Water) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), spearheaded the coordination of the Asia-Pacific Regional Process for the 10th World Water Forum. This joint effort demonstrated a shared commitment to addressing water security issues. A comprehensive approach was adopted, which involved dividing the issues into five sub-regions and appointing dedicated sub-regional coordinators. (For more details, refer to the “Overview of Asia-Pacific Regional Process.” and information on the preparatory phase from the APWF website (1) https://apwf.org/asia-pacific-regional-process-sessions-of-the-10th-world-water-forum/ and (2) https://apwf.org/coordinator-of-the-asia-pacific-regional-process-of-10th-wwf/
We collectively discussed specific issues and presented breakthroughs by providing sub-regional coordinators and their partner organizations the opportunity to organize 11 sub-regional sessions and 5 syntheses of sub-regional sessions. We shared best practices to address challenges and enhance effective water management practices tailored to local and cultural contexts. Reflecting on these sessions’ highlights and key messages, the Asia-Pacific Regional Process Coordinators (APWF, AWC, ADB) organized a final Asia-Pacific Regional Process Synthesis Session. During this session, we delivered comprehensive key messages, breakthroughs, and pathways toward water for shared prosperity, aligned with five guiding principles:
1.Building Resilience and Adaptive Capacity;
2.Promoting Inclusiveness and Gender Equality;
3.Embracing Environmental Sustainability and the Circular Economy;
4.Improving Governance and Catalysing Finance; and
5.Fostering Innovation and Technological Advancement.
During the Asia-Pacific Regional Process Synthesis Session, Ms. Yumiko Asayama, APWF, presented key messages and pathways toward water for shared prosperity, specifically in GP2 (Promoting Inclusiveness and Gender Equality) and GP3 (Embracing Environmental Sustainability and the Circular Economy).
