2. Workshop Objective
This workshop is intended to better inform the audience of the water-related problems in the Asia-Pacific and to share various ideas to address them. The audience will have an opportunity to learn more about Asia-specific water issues. Outcomes of presentations and discussion will serve to design more substantial sessions at the 7th World Water Forum, especially for the Regional Process. Furthermore, this workshop will serve to promote the Science & Technology Process, a newly-added element at the 7th World Water Forum to highlight the importance of innovation in S&T in solving water problems. The World Water Challenge Program, a special program of the Science & Technology Process, will be also introduced.
3. Program Summary
After brief welcoming remarks, the audience will be briefed on the overall progress of the 7th World Water Forum. Presentation on the Science & Technology Process will follow, focusing on its added value in solving global water issues and in the World Water Forum, and some of the ways to participate in the Science & Technology Process will be explained with the introduction of its Special Program. Various perspectives in addressing regional water challenges will be covered in the next presentation on the Regional Process of the 7th World Water Forum. Then, specific attention will be given to the Asia-Pacific region; what water issues the Asia- Pacific region is facing and how the 7th World Water Forum can contribute to addressing them. Presenters and experts will continue the discussion more in depth, at the panel discussion, where the audience is actively encouraged to participate. The discussion will touch upon various aspects of the water challenges such as water-food-energy nexus, agricultural water, and water equity, etc. for example. The panelists will also share their ideas to help reflect more of Asia’s voices in leading international water agenda.
