Seminar: How Can Regional KnowledgeHubs Promote the Most Suitable Technology for Wastewater Treatment?
Wednesday, June 30th, 10.00-12.00
Venue: Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Room 325
Co-organizers: Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF), Japan Global Center for Urban Sanitation (GCUS), Japan Sanitation Consortium (JSC), PUB Singapore, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
The International Year of Sanitation was a memorial success, raising awareness, garnering top political commitments and innovative actions. 2.5 billion people do not, however, have access to improved sanitation. New challenge arises as increased effluent will need to be treated to protect the global water environment, requiring the international community to urgently address waste water treatment.
The panel and participants will discuss the role that regional KnowledgeHubs must play in promoting the most suitable technology for wastewater treatment. One of the recommended next steps adapted at the Follow-up Conference of the IYS in January 2010 was that those involved in development and application of optimal technologies should jointly develop technology matrix and clearinghouse to facilitate selection of locally optimal and tailored technology for sanitation and made them available through, inter alia, web-page. The panel discussion is part of activities of the APWF KnowledgeHubs, which was launched at PUB Singapore’s WaterHub during Singapore International Water Week 2008.
